About

The Sudanese Nile School

The Sudanese Nile School is a modern educational institution that pursues and seeks out to provide a distinguished educational service for the purpose of upgrading and promoting the educational standard of the Sudanese pupils/ students in Edinburgh, along with other nationalities. Additionally, the Nile school always aims at nurturing an educated generation who believes in God, his/ her native land and nation, and consciously conversant with technology. Therefore, it has always been working keenly on offering high-quality doses of Arabic language and the native culture of Sudan, in addition to providing an appropriate, fascinating, and attractive educational environment, within and with the full support of an active community participation and qualified administrative and educational staff.

Birth and Establishment:

With the constantly increasing number of Sudanese immigrant families in Edinburgh, the urgent need for a Sudanese school to teach Arabic and national culture has grown to connect the Sudanese children with their roots and extended families in Sudan and reinforce the Sudanese identity. The school started with one class of Sudanese pupils. Then, after completing the first year successfully, the number of pupils increased, the number of grades reached four and the number of pupils reached fifty pupils, which in turn necessitated the registration of the school officially in 2012 as a charity association affiliated to Oscar Organization (Charity Organizations Registration Office in Scotland).

Then, it developed to 7 different grades and the number of pupils has reached over ninety male and female pupils. Its services expanded and extended to include different communities and ethnicities; Moroccans, Tunisians, Pakistanis, Scots, Algerians, Egyptians, Palestinians and Syrians. The school has been working on reinforcing and consolidating the Scottish identity, along with the other identities. It has been so keen to carry out introductory, educational activities on the history of indigenous cultures of the participating countries.

The School resumed its activities in November 2019 with a harmonious administrative cadre, qualified teaching staff, and pupils aspiring to learn the writing and reading of the Arabic language that they already speak. It qualifies teachers through workshops, training courses, readable materials and periodic checking. Moreover, it has tailored entertaining, enjoyable and attractive teaching program appealing to pupils.

Present and Future

The school believes in applying the rules and regulations, which reinforce mutual respect and closer relations between the school, pupils and parents in a manner that contributes effectively to providing appropriate educational environment, enriches and increases the standard of educational and academic outcome.

We believe that continuous and sustainable communication, as well as transparency between school administration and parents, which are included in our plan’s priority for this year, are an essential and key reason of success. Periodical meetings will be held between the school and parents so that they can come across, know, and follow up their children’s educational and behavioral development.
